Barnet Residents Association notes the recent sale of the Sebright Arms, alongside The King’s Head and The Queen’s Arms, as part of McMullen & Sons’ transfer of its Tenanted Division to Punch Pubs & Co. The transaction includes 27 tenanted pubs nationally, many of which have been in McMullen ownership for more than a century.
The Sebright Arms holds particular significance in Barnet. Listed as an Asset of Community Value until 2027, it has long served as a creative and community driven hub, hosting open mic nights, quiz evenings, charity fundraisers and a wide range of resident led activities. Its role extends well beyond that of a traditional pub, providing a welcoming space where friendships are formed and local talent is supported.
Following the announcement of the sale, the Sebright Arms Community Group contacted Punch to welcome the new owners and outline the pub’s importance to local residents. Punch has responded positively, expressing its commitment to preserving the individuality and character of the pubs it acquires and recognising the Sebright’s established place at the heart of the community. This early engagement has been warmly received and provides reassurance during the transition period.
The timing is especially significant as the Sebright prepares to host its largest charity event to date on 11 July, a celebration of the life and legacy of Graeme Hall, a much‑loved regular and key figure in the Barnet music scene. More than 25 acts have already committed to performing, reflecting the depth of affection and respect he inspired.
Barnet Residents Association looks forward to continued dialogue with Punch and to supporting a smooth transition that protects the Sebright’s unique character and community role. We also recognise the importance of The King’s Head and The Queen’s Arms to Barnet’s social life and hope all three pubs continue to thrive under their new owners as valued, well‑run and welcoming community assets.
